The ruins of the former monastery church of Paulinzella, one of the most important Romanesque sacred buildings in Germany, lie idyllically surrounded by rich woodland. The later ruins of the monastery received special attention with the Age of Enlightenment and became a popular destination for excursions. The hunting lodge of the counts and princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt as well as the forestry office building, the adventure herb garden and the so-called Zinsboden are located on the other grounds. The surrounding area with its hiking trails and wooded landscapes also invites visitors to explore.
